Africa Needs an Al Jazeera, Contd.

The role an Al Jazeera type organisation would play in Sub-Saharan Africa is undeniable, from investigative journalism to re-education its effect could be profound. Africast reports on an effort to realise this vision with the establishment of "Africa TV", "...Driven by the vision of Africans reporting on Africa for the world, a group of professional broadcasters, business people and reporters is setting up a pan-African satellite television network, to be launched within a year.Modelled on Arabic satellite network al Jazeera and led by Salim Amin, son of legendary Kenyan photojournalist Mo Amin, Africa TV aims to be an independent voice reporting on all events - good and bad - to the continent and the rest of the world."My vision is to give a more balanced view of Africa by Africans rather than by foreign correspondents,"..."The way the international 24-hour news machine works the big networks have a lot of other big stories that need to be covered and they can't devote the resources that I believe are necessary to cover Africa properly..."

It's about time.

My praise goes out to anyone that looks beyond the status quo and challenges the rule of the day. This is long overdue. We live in a world where western propaganda has corrupted the minds of all people.
The time has come when we must tell it like it is!

My praise goes out to Al Jazeera for being a leader in objective news reporting. More than any time in our recent history, do we need the "story" to be told from another veiw point. The corporate controlled media in the west has corrupted the minds of many around the world. Tell it like it is Al Jazeera!

Al Jazeera is a terrible model for any news outlet - objectivity doesn't spring to mind as the first word associated with it. As a matter of fact, bias, dishonesty, terror supporters spring to mind!
However, I do think the idea of an African newsgroup reporting on Africa is an excellent idea. As long as it's not controlled by an ideology or a government, etc.

Good going, I believe the more media outlets the better. don't listen to idiots who can brand anything as terrorist because they don't purport their point of view. What a bunch of idiots...

anyway, as I was saying... The more media outlets the better! Hopefully this iwll increase to be as great as the bigger media organisations of the world.

Every broadcaster has an agenda it is time for an African one!

SABC Africa has led the first continent wide tv programming as a first step but it has been done from a South Africa perspective which is one of the challenges. Covering our continent is a very expensive and time consuming exercise. Not even the BBC's of the CNN's have had the budget to go beyond the bad new most of the time.

But to balance the playing fields it must happen. I hope that the 'new' founders understands the complexity and responsibility of becoming Africa's voice.
